Seasons Greetings!

I went out to mail some packages today, trying to beat the Christmas rush and couldn't help but wonder why they put pictures of criminals up on the walls of the Post Office? What are we supposed to do, send them a letter? Why don't they just put their faces on postage stamps so the mailmen can look for them on their daily route?

On the way home I was trying to come up with some
incidental Christmas gifts. I do a lot of cooking and thought that with my ancestors being from Scotland and Ireland, I might be able to come  up with some interesting treats!

Over many centuries, the Scots have utilized ingredients from the land & sea to create a pleasantly simple yet favorable cuisine. With recipes like “Roastit Bubble-Jock Christmas Turkey,
Tuppeny Mutton Pies, Venison Balls with Sour Cream, or a Delicious bowl of Cock-a-leekie Soup, I thought “How can I go wrong?” But when I started looking at my recipes with ingredients like a sheep’s stomach with ox bung filled with chopped heart, lung, liver & suet it kind of lost it’s “festive effect”!

Instead, I decided to stick to baking. Who at this time of the year can resist the elements of sophistication placed into the making of an Irish
cinnamon Apple Cake (with cinnamon grown in marshes under the protection of a terrible kind of bat . . . (so the legend says!)) Originally this cake was baked in a pot creating a spell attracting love & increasing sexual prowess. . . . I love the Holidays!

And now, a little Christmas trivia . . .

   It was a starry night and the snowflakes drifted down gently. The snow crust sparkled in the lamplight at the North Pole. Sleigh bells jingled in the distance.
   It was supposed to be a happy time, but it wasn’t. Santa was really pissed off! It was Christmas Eve and NOTHING was going right. Mrs. Clause had burned all the Christmas cookies. The elves were bitching about not getting paid for the overtime they had put in while making toys. And to top it all off, the reindeer had been drinking all afternoon and were completely useless. They had taken the sleigh out for a spin earlier that day and crashed it into a tree, breaking off one of the runners. They were still running around outside, giggling and shaking their sleigh bells.
   Santa was redder than usual with anger. He drank another slug of scotch, and then bellowed “I can’t believe it! I’ve got to deliver millions of presents all over the world in just a few hours from now and all my reindeer are drunk, my elves are on strike, and I don’t even have a Christmas tree! I sent that stupid little Angel out hours ago to find a tree and he isn’t even back yet! What the hell am I going to do?
   Just then the little Angel opened the front door and stepped in from the snowy night, dragging a Christmas tree behind him. He said “Yo Santa, where do you want me to stick the Christmas tree this year?”
   And thus the tradition of Angels perched atop the Christmas trees came to pass!

As I mentioned in my last couple journals, we all get a little stagnant at times with our art, whether it is with photography, drawing/painting or creative writing. Whenever that stagnant word hits me I always have these people constantly there to remind me that I must be doing something right! These are the fantastic artists that keep me going!
